THE AMA COLLECTION. The collection is inspired by the ancient tradition of Ama Pearl Divers in Japan. Ama, means ‘woman of the sea’ and is recorded as early as AD 750 in the oldest Japanese anthology of poetry, the Man’yoshu. The fascination with these incredible women inspired 17 pieces of jewellery which honour their culture and environment, taking inspiration from their natural as well as man-made world. The chunky chains not only represent mariner chains of ships and anchors but are also a nod towards what might be considered as typically masculine, or what a man might typically wear. The Ama divers hold a beautiful masculine confidence and independence that these chains represent within the collection.
